The IEEE defines ‘standards’ as follows: Published documents that establish specifications and procedures designed to ensure the reliability of materials, products, methods, and/or services that people use every day. In spite of the PID controller’s persistent dominance as industry’s preferred regulatory control technology there is no standard procedure for tuning. Clearly there’s room for progress.
